Truck Menu Overrides

When you operate multiple food trucks under the same business, not every truck can offer the same thing at the same price. One truck might be at a premium event where prices are higher. Another might not carry the ingredients for certain customizations. Truck Menu Overrides let you handle these differences without touching the master menu in BMS.

What Are Truck Menu Overrides?

Truck Menu Overrides are per-truck adjustments to the master menu that only affect what customers see when ordering from a specific truck's Front of Shop (FOS) menu. The master menu in BMS stays exactly as the business owner configured it.

Think of it this way: the master menu is the blueprint, and overrides are local annotations that say "at this truck, this item costs more" or "at this truck, we don't offer this customization."

Overriding Item Pricing

You can change the price of any menu item for a specific truck. This is useful when:

  • Different locations have different costs — A truck operating in a high-rent area or at a premium event may need higher prices to cover costs.
  • Promotional pricing — You might want to run a discount on certain items at one truck without affecting others.
  • Market-specific adjustments — Ingredient costs may vary by region, and your pricing should reflect that.

To override a price:

  1. Open the Menu Overrides section in OMS.
  2. Select the item you want to adjust.
  3. Enter the new price for this truck.
  4. Save the change.

The updated price will appear on the FOS menu for this truck only. All other trucks continue to show the master menu price.

Overriding Customization Availability

Beyond pricing, you can also control which customizations (add-ons, variations, modifications) are available at a specific truck. For example:

  • A truck that doesn't carry jalape\u00f1os can disable the "Add Jalape\u00f1os" customization.
  • A truck at a breakfast event can hide dinner-only sauce options.
  • A truck with a smaller setup might not offer certain premium toppings.

To override customization availability:

  1. Open the Menu Overrides section in OMS.
  2. Navigate to the item and its customizations.
  3. Toggle specific customizations on or off for this truck.
  4. Save the change.
info

Overrides only remove customization options from a truck's menu. You cannot add new customizations through overrides — new customizations must be created in the master menu via BMS.

How Overrides Affect FOS

When a customer scans the QR code or opens the ordering page for a specific truck, FOS displays the master menu with that truck's overrides applied. The customer sees:

  • Adjusted prices where overrides exist
  • Only the customizations that are enabled for that truck
  • All other items and options exactly as they appear in the master menu
tip

Overrides take effect as soon as you save them. Customers ordering from the truck's FOS will immediately see the updated prices and available customizations.

Visibility for the Business Owner

Truck Menu Overrides are fully transparent. The business owner can view all active overrides for every truck through BMS. This means:

  • There are no hidden price changes — the owner always knows what each truck is charging.
  • Overrides can be reviewed and discussed during team meetings or planning sessions.
  • If an override is no longer needed, the business owner or Order Manager can remove it, reverting the item back to the master menu configuration.
note

Overrides are designed for operational flexibility, not as a replacement for proper menu planning. If most of your trucks need different pricing, it may be worth updating the master menu in BMS instead of maintaining many overrides.
