Glossary
This glossary defines the key terms and concepts you will encounter when using CliqMenu. Use it as a quick reference whenever you come across an unfamiliar term in the documentation or in the product itself.
Platform Components
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| BMS (Business Management System) | The web application where business owners set up and manage their business — including business details, menu, pricing, customizations, payment settings, QR codes, staff roles, and reports. BMS is the central control panel for everything about your CliqMenu presence. |
| OMS (Order Management System) | The web application used by staff during live service to receive, manage, and progress customer orders. OMS shows incoming orders in real-time and allows staff to update order status, manage stock availability, and handle the flow from order received to delivered. |
| FOS (Food Ordering System) | The customer-facing web application where customers browse your menu, place orders, make payments, and track order status. Customers access FOS by scanning a QR code or visiting a direct URL — no app download needed. |
| KDS (Kitchen Display System) | A planned display interface designed for kitchen staff to view and manage orders during preparation. KDS will show orders that need to be cooked and allow kitchen staff to mark items as complete. (Coming soon) |
Ordering and Payment
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| QR Code | A scannable code unique to your business and location. When a customer scans it with their phone camera, it opens your FOS menu automatically with the correct business and location context loaded. You can generate and download QR codes from BMS. |
| Surcharge | An additional fee applied on top of item prices. Surcharges can be configured by the business owner in BMS and are shown to customers in the cart before they place an order. Common uses include a public holiday surcharge or a weekend surcharge. |
| Dining Method | How the customer intends to receive their food. CliqMenu currently supports Dine-In (eating at the location) and Takeaway (taking food to go). The available dining methods depend on what the business has enabled. |
| Payment Method | How the customer pays for their order. Options include Cash at Counter (pay with cash when picking up), Card at Counter (pay by card at the terminal), and Online (pay securely via Stripe Checkout before the order is prepared). |
| GST (Goods and Services Tax) | A consumption tax applied to goods and services. In CliqMenu, GST is calculated automatically based on the business's country and applied to all orders. The GST amount is shown to customers in the cart breakdown. |
| Stripe Connect | The payment platform CliqMenu uses to enable online payments. Business owners connect their Stripe account in BMS, and customer payments flow securely through Stripe to the business's bank account. Available in New Zealand and Australia. |
Menu and Items
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Stock Status | The availability state of a menu item. There are four levels: Available (can be ordered normally), Low in Stock (can be ordered but supply is limited), Not Available (visible but cannot be ordered), and Sold Out (clearly marked as unavailable). Stock status can be changed in both BMS and OMS. |
| Customization | An option or modifier that customers can select when ordering an item. Examples include size (Small, Medium, Large), toppings (extra cheese, bacon), and preparation preferences (spice level). Customizations can be required or optional, and may have additional costs. |
| Filter | A dietary or attribute tag assigned to a menu item that helps customers narrow the menu. Common filters include Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free, Spicy, Dairy-Free, and Halal. Customers use filter buttons on FOS to show only items matching their dietary needs. |
Staff Roles
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Order Manager | A staff role in CliqMenu responsible for managing live orders in OMS. Order Managers can view incoming orders, update order status, and manage stock availability during service. |
| Kitchen Staff | A staff role in CliqMenu for team members who prepare food. Kitchen Staff will primarily interact with KDS (when available) to see what needs to be cooked and mark items as complete. |
